There are many upsides to what we do and having the chance to work with, learn, and experience other industries is definitely one of the perks. When Jason, with Artifice Security, reached out to us for a complete website redo for his cybersecurity business, we were bouncing off the walls with excitement. Seriously, does it get any cooler than cybersecurity? We are living in technological times and astoundingly, there are 4.9 billion active internet users worldwide. This means more and more people and businesses are susceptible to a cyberattack at any given moment.
The Journey: Our Process
Given the seriousness of what Jason does, it is imperative that his brand and website be visible online to ensure that the masses can find him and utilize his essential services. While Jason already had a logo that he was happy with, his existing website was lacking in cohesiveness, visual appeal, and an overall brand identity. Needless to say, it was time to pull up our sleeves and get to work on building the best, custom cybersecurity website in the world. With over 15 web pages to create, this was a PRYDE Design’s team effort.
Prior to beginning the design, we vigorously researched the cybersecurity industry, taking note of what is working and what isn’t working for the various companies operating within said industry. Not only did we analyze other local cybersecurity websites, we also expanded our search and examined cybersecurity websites across the nation. This stage, while arduous, is pivotal to capturing a full understanding of what has been done and what we can do better. One thing that we noticed from our research was that most cybersecurity websites used fear-based marketing to scare online visitors into inquiring about their services. A few of the fear-based tactics demonstrated on their websites included using a heap of hooded hacker images, displaying daunting text, and having alarming pop-ups. After a conversation with Jason, we all agreed to take a different approach. We didn’t want to scare people, but rather educate them on the risks of cyberattacks and offer help from a trusted source. When we were finally ready to initiate phase 1 of the web design process, we recognized that we needed to adjust the brand colors. Using our knowledge of color psychology, we chose blue to represent trust as well as red to signify power and courage. For the home page, we strategically placed an inviting image of a woman smiling as the banner. Upon entering the site, a guest will see the words, “peace of mind” in red letters across their screen. Again, the goal was to steer away from the industry standard of using scare tactics.
With over 20 years of experience, you can imagine that Jason has a considerable amount of information to share about the industry, what he does, and his work process. The matter we faced was showcasing the information in a way that didn’t feel cluttered or overwhelming. To do this, we implemented pictures and iconography to break up the text. Furthermore, we added a nifty feature called parallax effect, which gives the page a dynamic feel as you’re scrolling through.
Lastly, anyone can have a great website made, but making sure it ranks and is seen on Google searches is the most effective way to grow your business. It would be a shame to invest in a website that just simply isn’t seen. When building the Artifice Security website, we made sure it was search engine optimized and keyword optimized for maximum online visibility. We always recommend adding a blog page, like the one we created for Jason, to increase chances to rank higher in popular search engines.
To conclude, our enthusiasm for this project carries on to this day. We genuinely enjoyed working alongside Jason to elevate the Artifice Security brand. Pushing ourselves and thinking outside of the box only made us better designers and we are ready, more than ever, to take on the next challenge!
